Little big planet was first released on October 27, 2008, made my British developers Media Molecule and published by Sony Interactive with an overwhelmingly larger fan base that would carry the game on for years.
LittleBigPlanet is an online game creator and story game where you can make missions for you and your friends to play or for other people online with their friends, the story on the other hand followed a small plush man named Sackboy who would have to pass through obstacles to proceed with the mission.
This ability to create your own games and share them made the game big enough to become a franchise with sequels like LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet 3 and a spinoff, Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
This game for many people, including myself that still plays these games today, LittleBigPlanet was the tutorial that taught you how to play every game and even gave real life advice. A good example being one of the first lines said by the narrator voiced by the amazing English actor and comedian Stephen Fry when he said “Now occasionally you’re going to get stuck, it’s nothing to get upset about”.
Sadly, on September 13, 2021, the servers for LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2 shut down permanently starting a long period of worry for the LittleBigPlanet community. Rumors started that LittleBigPlanet 3 was next, and they were right. In January 2024 the servers shut down temporarily for “server networking issues” and fans around the world got worried but kept their hope, until on April 19, 2024. The LittleBigPlanet 3 servers shut down for good, ending a large and faithful community that almost rarely sees any light now a days. The developers thank the players and apologized before leaving the game in the dust; leaving only the memories of what was and the creator mode no longer shareable or playable with friends.
